'My Id is Gangnam Beauty' is 2018 popular South-Korean television series aired on JTBC channel, starring Cha Eun - Woo as Do Kyung Seok and Im So - hyang as Kang Mi Rae who play the lead pair. While Jo Woo - Ri as Hyun Soo - Ah and Kwak Dong - Yeon as Yeon Woo - Young, play the roles of love rivals in the series. My Id is Gangnam Beauty, this television series is based on the webtoon of the same name published in the year 2016 under the company NAVER WEBTOON. The story revolves around Kang Mi - Rae who is college student and has always been bullied for her not so appealing looks, thus she decides to go for a cosmetic surgery (or plastic surgery in simple words) so that even she becomes beautiful just like the others. Now, with a new face she enters the university only find out that she is even bullied her because people know that she not a true beauty but a fake one who has done cosmetic surgery. This is where she is given the term "Gangnammiin", which is a derogatory term in South Korea used for people who look like they went for a surgery to get an amazing face and body.

Although Kang Mi - Rae's life gets more interesting when she meets her middle school heart throb Do Kyung Seok again,  who eventually starts taking an interest in her even after knowing her reality and never judging her. Kang Mi - Rae dreams of being a perfumer in future because of Do Kyung Seok's mother who had saved her life when she was in middle school after being fed up of all the bullying. She teaches her that how looks is not everything and smell/fragrance plays a huge role in our lives. And that's when we come to know and learn about the series' real motif.

The series not only deals with the concept of acceptance of 'it's okay to have plastic surgeries if one wishes to and we don't really have any right to judge them' but also the fact that Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Like for example, Hyun Soo - Ah Kang Mi - Rae's love rival always teases her for her being a Gangnammiin.

 Hyun Soo - Ah loves to portray herself as a perfectly well - mannered women who is not only a beauty with brains but also is a very good human being. But in reality, it is the exact opposite of that she always wishes to be the center of attraction, she is unable to foresee anyone less prettier than her happy and thus she makes sure to ruin their life either indirectly by snatching away their boyfriends or by playing dirty mind games. And this what exactly happens when she notices that the handsome Do Kyung - Seok starts taking an interest in the Gangnam Beauty Kang Mi - Rae and not her instead he despises her for her hypocrisy which he can clearly see through. Hyun Soo - Ah starts to get closer to Kang Mi - Rae so that a trust can be developed between the two and she can they start with her tricks, at first her plans seems to be successful when she comes out as a person who is okay with Kang Mi - Rae being a Gangnam Beauty but later on starts to play mind games and makes sure that Kang Mi - Rae is not confident enough to date Kyung Seok because she is not a natural beauty and so on. 

But what she fails to understand is that, she has no rights to question Kang Mi - Rae's source of beauty when she herself has got a perfect body only after swallowing diet pills daily which people are unaware of. So it is always important to understand that before we point fingers at others, we better look at ourselves if we are perfect enough  and are at a position to question others.

Now, that being said, Kang Mi - Rae, Do  Kyung - Seok and Yeon Woo - Young  teach us an important lesson that 'Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder', which perfectly explains Hyun Soo - Ah's character as well. For her a perfect body and a beautiful face was important whereas for Do Kyung - Seok and Yeon Woo - Young what mattered was the beautiful heart, and the feelings that it held and not the body and face. Both of them fell for Kang Mi - Rae not because of her now perfect face and body but instead because of her beautiful heart which accepts people how they are, forgives people easily and never hold grudges even against the ones who have done her bad. They don't see the beauty of the face, they see the beauty of the generous heart and that is why it rightly explains that Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder because it is important to see who is looking at the masterpiece.

Human psyche is very forgetful as it often forgets to keep in mind that it needs to look at himself before it went out and judged others, thus in the millions of people alive today, we would be able to find only a handful of people who really take an effort to understand other people's emotions and reasons behind doing a certain thing, before they questioned them and then finally comes the most important thing that is to understand the fact that not everyone will appreciate your beauty because you have to make sure to see that who is the person who is given the chance to appreciate your beauty because Beauty is nothing but an emotion whose meaning may change from person to person depending who is looking at you and with what thoughts and feelings, thus it is important to remember that Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and not something else.
